The different prices reflect smaller/larger size rootballs. PLEASE READ MY FAQ BELOW ABOUT FIELD-DUG PLANTS. Picture above: A new culmPicture above: A grove of Aureas will produce an excellent privacy fence. ORIGIN UNKNOWN. INTRODUCED INTO THE USA IN THE 1800’s. A nice, aggressive, running bamboo that is used to make fishing poles, furniture, walking sticks and umbrellas. ThisisPhyllostachys Aurea(Golden Bamboo). Typically mislabled “Turtle Shell Bamboo” because of its compressed lower nodes, this plant is not related to the real turtle shell bamboo. This is a very beautiful plant that spreads rather quickly to form very dense groves and privacy screens. It grows straight up (erect) and does not grow towards the light, like most other bamboo! The books claim it only gets 27ft tall, but i have seen plenty that get to around 30 to 35 ft tall. A WONDERFULGOLDEN BAMBOO WITH STRANGELY COMPRESSED LOWER NODES Enjoys full sun. Culms start out green and turn a golden yellow as the sun ages it. It is speculated that P. Aurea was the very first species of Phyllostachys to be introducedinto the USA. Its origins go back to as early as 1822, according to some sources. Grows in Costa Rica and China, as well. An excellent container plant and hedge plant. In my opinion, one of the most drought tolerant of the bamboo family.P. Aurea is also very tolerant of poor soil conditions, especially soil with very little aeration (clay/compact soils). Picture above: A young 3-gallon sized plant.Picture above: The culms turn golden as they age in the sunlight. SPECIES INFO Scientific Name: Phyllostachys Aurea Common Name:Golden Bamboo MAX Height Range: 27ft? Rhizome:Leptomorph (RUNNER) MAX Culm Diameter:1 3/4 inches (I have seen some swell much wider than this). MINTemperature:0 F. Light: Full Direct Sun. Water: Water or mist when leaves begin to curl or wilt. It will tell you when it needs watering. Very drought tolerant, moreso than other bamboo. Feeding: Heavy feeders, loves Nitrogen & slightly acidic soil. I prefer liquid fertilizers and regular foliar feeding. Origin: Unknown. Introduced into the USA in the 1800s. Uses: Groves, privacy screens, fishpoles, furniture, umbrellas and walking sticks. HardinessZones: Native to temperate regions and subtropics. Grows nicely in regions 7-11. Notes: It is known to produce impenetrable groves. Trim lower branches to exploit the ornamental aspects of this plant. Compressed lower nodes are very cool! I will often ignore emails from people who clearly have not read the listing. Yourquestion may already be answered. HAPPY EBAYING! Picture above: This is a field dug plant growing in a 3 gallon pot.Picture above: Lower culms are usually compressed. FAQ: How tall is a 1 gallon plant? My plants vary greatly in size, mostly because they are very fast growers. There is really no standard and a plant with a 1 gallon sized rootball could be either 12 inches tall, or 5 feet tall. In order to keep the plants shipable, expect your plant to be no taller than 24 inches regardless of what size rootball you order, unless the listing describes otherwise. The benefits of a larger rootball are many, including a faster, shorter time needed to acclimate to their new environment, a faster, quicker growth spurt after repotting, and more. I dont like the plant that i ordered. Its not what i thought it would look like. Can i return it for a refund? A restocking fee of 25% your winning bid (or total price minus shipping charge) will apply. S&H charges are not refundable. Read my policy please. My plant arrived damaged through the mail and i didn’t pay for insurance… What do i do? Pay for insurance whenever you purchase something online. You are responsible for paying to have your package insured. If it is insured i will work with you to recover the provable value of the item from the postal service/fed ex. If you do not pay for insurance you are taking a risk. Uninsured items will not be protected against this risk. With all that being said, most plants will recover and it might not be worth all the hassle to recover funds throughan insurance claim (which often takes months to resolve). What is a Field-dug plant? A field-dug plant is one that has been growing in the ground for quite some time. It is not growing in a container and this means mostly that the plant itself has not been stunted, but allowed to grow out. The main thing to remember when purchasing a field-dug plant is that it is in the ground at the time of your purchase. It is not dug up out of the ground until you have paid for it. It is then root trimmed (if necessary) and topped (if necessary) to fit in the restrictions of a shipping box. Field-dug plants, when dug properly by someone who knows what they are doing, are no better or worse than container-ized plants. Both will adapt to their new enviroment. Typically field-dugbamboo respond quicker, in my opinion, than container-ized plants when replanted or potted up. By being exposed to the sudden stress (and wake-up call!) of being dug, topped and clipped, this usually triggers the plant to put out new shoots and replace what has been taken away rather quickly. Picture above: They do very well in containers.
