Drosera flaconeri(Falcon Sundew)
Origin:Â Northern Australia
Another of the spectacular Petiolaris Group sundews. Under ideal conditions your Drosera falconeri can grow to maturity in less than a year. It is extremely rare in cultivation. This plant with it’s DEEP RED COLORATION and it’s AMAZING “DEW” PRODUCTION is a true “LIVING JEWEL”. It can be the HIGHLIGHT of any collection! The tiny paddle-like hairy leaves are covered with drops of sticky goo, which trap insects that are attracted to the plant. In summer the sundews are topped with thin spikes holding small flowers. Sundews are winter hardy in most of the southeastern US, in cooler regions they can be grown in pots and terrariums as a house plant. Drosera falconeri should be grown in Canadian Spaghnum Peat Moss or Long Fibored Spaghnum Moss. It will tend to be redder under brighter light. Once the plants are large enough you can try feeding them small insects or get some dried blood worms at a pet shop. The dried blood worms can be dipped in water and placed on the sticky leaves. Only water with distilled or rain water! Drosera falconeri can live for years. The plants tend to go though cycles of growth and semi-dormancy.
