    SACRED SAGE syn White Sage (Salvia alpinia) Highly aromatic, waxy, grayish white leaves used extensively for incense and smudging. Can be grown as a perennial or annual or lifted in the fall to overwinter indoors in cooler climates. Plant 60cm (2′) apart in full sun in a well draining, sandy soil. Water only minimally, it is very drought tolerant. Pollinated by bumblebees and hawkmoths and attracts hummingbirds. Zone 7-11. You are bidding on 15 seeds Seed: Sow shallowly in very sandy soil and keep warm and lightly moist. Average germination time two weeks Harvesting: In the summer or fall, when the white-leaved rosettes are at their prime. Do not pick all the leaves or the plant will not make it through the winter. Let the leafy stalks wilt in a dry location for a day or two such as on a screen or table. They must wilt first or you risk blackening the leaves by trapping too much moisture inside. Once the leaves are leathery, supple and limp gather several stalks together and tie with cotton string in the traditional form of a smudge stick. Hang indoors to complete the drying process.The bundle will last for a year or two To smudge: Always use a ceramic, metal container or abalone shell as the sage embers burn hot.
