Rare Phantom Miracle Tree 10 Seeds-Moringa-Houseplant Shipping Info|Customer Service Policy|Payment Info|Checkout Info|About Us (Click to Enlarge) (Click to Enlarge) (Click to Enlarge) (Click to Enlarge) (Click to Enlarge) Description FREE SHIPPING ON ADDITIONAL SEEDMART SEEDS PURCHASED WITHIN 7 DAYS AND PAID WITH ONE PAYMENT! The Phantom Miracle Tree (Moringa oleifera) gets it’s name from the fact that when older it forms an enlarged base and can withstand periods of drought by dropping its leaves. When this happens it looks like a “Phantom”. Others call it a Miracle Tree because all parts of the plant can be eaten! The genus Moringa consists of 9 species. These are found in southern Africa, north-eastern Africa, Madagascar and India. The only endemic southern African species, Moringa ovalifolia, the Phantom Miracle Tree, is an inhabitant of northern Namibia and south-western Angola. This species is a smooth-stemmed, stem-succulent tree growing up to 25 feet tall. This species is very common on the many granitic and dolomitic hills of northern Namibia. The Phantom Miracle Tree has been introduced to the western parts of southern Africa from India and is well established in eastern Zimbabwe. In South Africa it is encountered in the Northern Province and KwaZulu-Natal, where it is highly prized for its edible leaves and horse-radish-flavoured roots. Actually every part of the plant is edible. As a food, the pods of the Phantom Miracle Tree, called drumsticks, are commonly consumed in India and some other Asian countries. The seeds are sometimes removed and eaten like peas or roasted like nuts. The cooked flowers are edible, and are said to taste like mushrooms. The roots are sometimes shredded and used as a condiment in the same way as horseradish. The leaves are highly nutritious, a significant source of beta-carotene, Vitamin C, protein, calcium, iron and potassium. For this reason, interest is growing in the use of Phantom Miracle Tree in addressing malnutrition in developing areas of the world. Moreover it is fast growing and fairly drought resistant thus making it ideal for planting in arid regions and also to stave off encroaching desert sand. The seeds may be crushed and used to purify water. They also contain a high-quality oil that can be used in cooking, cosmetics, and lubrication. The crushed seed cake can be used as a fertilizer. The bark, sap, roots, leaves, seeds, oil and flowers are used in traditional medicine in several countries. In Jamaica, the sap is used for a blue dye. The flowers are also cooked and relished as a delicacy in West Bengal and Bangladesh, especially during early spring. There it is called Sojne ful and is usually cooked with green peas and potato. It makes a great bonsai, house plant or patio plant. Shipping Info Your first auction win opens a 7 day shopping cart. Your first pack of seed ships for $2.99.
