It grows 6″ to 8″ when used as a ground cover and can climb to 9 feet as a vine. Plant 18″ apart to create a carpet affect. These are low-growing plants that spread quickly to form a dense cover. They add beauty to the landscape around trees to prevent weed growth and, at the same time, help prevent soil erosion. THORNDALE Ivy is very easy to grow! Ivy can be found to fit many conditions, but they are used most frequently for the following locations: Steep banks or slopes Shady areas under trees and next to buildings Under plantings in shrub borders and beds Where tree roots grow close to the surface and prevent grass from growing Your ivy will be cut immediately before shipping from established plants. Your cuttings will be a combination of leafy cuttings and bare roots from runners that spread across the ground, which will be box in a plastic water bottle shipped immediately, wrapped in damp paper towel and placed in a plastic baggie. They also work well in container gardens. A real advantage to having some pots of these plants is that they are quite cold hardy and do not need to be taken indoors during winter. They also thrive in brightly lit areas inside the home. Upon arrival, please plant immediately. If you cannot plant them immediately, they will keep in water for a day, or stick one end in a pot with soil and keep moist. To plant, cover vine or root with 1 inch of soil, leaving the leaves exposed. I recommend using root starter growth hormone available at most garden centers but is not necessary. Water well after planting, then once a week till established. These plants are very hearty, and need very little maintenance once established. They will fill in an area quickly (less than 2 years). Sorry but these plants are restricted in/cannot be shipped to Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon or Washington State.
