WOULDNT ALLIUMS BE PERFECT FOR YOUR GARDEN THIS YEAR? ================================================================== OTHER FLOWERS BELOW ARE IN MY EBAY STORE,,, PURPLE TULIPS ===================================================== IN CONTAINERS OR IN THE YARD… I have really enoyed container gardening this year as my yard is full.I have have great tips, be sureyou read the planting instructions towards bottom of this listing. we dont have extra fees.. we dont charge per item extra add on fees.. your buy it price is it… dont spend money on shipping and add on fees… spend money on bulbS… planting instructions PLANTING TULIPS IN POTS Step1 Buy good tulip bulbs, not dime store bulbs, and good quality potting soil mix, which is very important. great bulbs and lously dirt will not work! Step2 Choose a high container in which to plant the tulip bulbs. Step3 Plant your tulip bulbs in the container from Septemberon..not before sept. as its too hot! Plant numerous bulbs depending on the size of the pot. You can plant 4 bulbs in a 6-inch pot and up to 15 bulbs in a 25-inch pot. Make sure there’s about one-half inch of soil below the bulb and about an inch of soil covering the top of the bulb. Step4 Place the planted bulbs outdoors in a cool shady spot. Keep containers adequately watered especially for the first few weeks to avoid stunted and shriveled flowers. Regularly water the plants because the pots do not maintain moisture as well as ground soil. Step5 Fertilize and feed the plant after it begins to flower. After flowering, remove any dead flowers and allow the leaves to die and fall off the plant. Another tip, last but not least… feed them! and yes, I just happen to sell food! See bulb food in my ebay store… Protect potted tulips from frosty winter nights by keeping it in the garage or by wrapping pots with burlap or straw. You also can cover it with plastic bags. Do not use peat-based mixtures to grow tulips. Avoid black plastic pots because they absorb heat.( tulips, like me, dont like heat! did you know that?) Like other bulbs, Tulips should be stored in a cool, well ventilated area. The garage in summer is definitely not the place to keep tulip bulbs. Many an inexperienced gardener has pulled up bulbs, and kept them in the garage until fall planting, only to find, dried up bulbs a few months later. ALWAYS KEEP TULIPS COOL! Forcing Tulips Tulips can be forced to bloom indoors winter months. When you buy bulbs in the fall, save a few to try this fun and easy indoor garden activity. A few bulbs are planted in a flower pot. The pot is then “chilled” or set in the cold for a few weeks. After a few weeks, the pot is brought indoors, and Voila, the tulips will grow and bloom indoors. Important Tip: While you can chill bulbs in a refrigerator, they interact with many fruits in your refrigerator and will fail to bloom. ………… FAIL TO BLOOM!!! REMOVING FRUITS FROM YOUR FRIDGE IS AN OK THING TO DO FOR YOU TULIPS LOVERS! SMILING BIG! OUTDOOR PLANTING Dig a new tulip bed in a sunny location about a foot deep. Use a shovel or spade or tiller to turn the ground. Work fertilizer into the soil.( mine) . Plant the tulip bulbs about one to two inches below the ground. Make sure the root portion of the bulb is pointing down. Space the tulips about six inches apart. .Put mulch over the tulip bulbs if you live in a cold climate. If you live in a more moderate climate you can skip this step. Remember to remove the mulch as soon as the ground begins to warm in the spring. Cut the tulips for indoor use if you like. Remove tulip heads from the plants as soon as they begin to fade. Leave the green stems alone for a while because they are feeding the bulb so it can grow and bloom again next year. Once the foliage dies, you can cut it back as well. Check out my other items!
