One of the largest growing species of hardy bamboo in the world growing to a height of 70′ ft and a diameter of 5″ in. A grove of this beautiful Timber Bamboo looks like the type of place where you’d find a panda nibbling away on leaves and shoots. This Phyllostachys Vivax bamboo isa very cold hardy giant bamboo similar in appearance to Japanese Timber Bamboo. Under native growing conditions this species can grow to over 70 feet and 5 inches in diameter. It is the quickest bamboo to attain large culm size with it elegant drooping large deep green leaves. The culm (cane) sheaths are creamy buff color with brown spotting. The oral setae and auricles are absent from the culm sheaths.It has thin walls, which makes it easy to split for working with crafts.Its shoots are excellent to eat both cooked and raw.
