500STRATIFIED AMERICAN GINSENG SEEDS Ginsengoccurs naturallyunder hardwood timber throughout the eastern half of North America, from southern Canada to central Alabama and from the east coast to just west of the Mississippi River. In southern range it is limited due to cold required to break dormancy. In selecting a site, keep in mind that a well drained wooded lot is the best of choice, as Ginseng cannot be grown in direct sunlight. 70% to 80% shade is ideal. A natural woods will shade perfectly providing the trees are mature. A mixed woods is best. If a natural woods is not available, please select an area on the North or East side of the house, along a fence row, etc. Rich, well drained soil on a slight slope is ideal. But Ginseng is known to grow in a variety of soils. If weeds grow well, Ginseng will too. A low line area may cause root rot. Ginseng likes moisture, but hates wetness. Stratified American Ginseng Seeds means they have been properly stored in sand boxes for one full year and will germinatethisspring. I float test my seeds in water to be sure they all sink and the husks are full. I have extremily high germination. Been selling roots and seedon ebay for many years now. In simple terms, I sell excellent product. IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ: The seed I am currently selling islow priced. This is due to selling out of season and I currently still have a fair amount of seed.I am now starting to send detailed instructions on how you can get your seed delivered now, and for yourself to properly store the seed during the winter. Then you can plant your seed invery early spring as the frost is leaving the soil. A long story short, seed properly stored should be mixed with fine sand. And the sand should be slightly damp. And stored at below freezing to prevent early germination. But not too cold as 5 degree F. temperatures willkill the seed in as little as 24 hours. Properly buried under the ground evenin cold Minnesota will not harm the seed. If you cannot bury the seed and sand mixin the ground, bury the seed and sand mix under the snow. Snow insulates and prevents the seed from the extreme cold just like the soil does. Lightly damp soil will also work. Your refrigerator may work if you can get the back of the refrigerator to slightly freeze your soil and sand mix. Again, if refrigerator is too warm it could cause early germination of the seed. If you do not want to do this, later I will be selling seed for spring delivery but most likely, my prices will be higher, if not much higher. Orders are very strong in February through March. I can take reserved orders for delivery of seed now. Butyour cost will be 50% higher than currently listed prices. Buy now and store your own seed and save! For growerswho can still plant seed now, keepin mind the seeds should be planted soon after arrival. And should be planted under the ground in the soil at least 1/4″. If you are located in a warm climate, Ginseng needs colder or cold winters to break dormancy for the seeds and roots to grow. For an exampe: Florida is too warm as if the seeds or roots do not have 60 days of 48 degree F. or colder, they will not sprout. My seed that I am currently selling is stored at about the freezing point. And a location like Florida may get the seed to sprout since the seed has had some time exposure to the cold to break dormancy. But the following year the one year roots most likely would not sprout and grow in Florida. Due to the lack of cold to break dormancy. However, the root will remain alive according to test results. This example is true to Florida or climates like Florida. Wild Ginseng does break dormancy and grow naturally wild as far south as NE Louisiana, most if Mississippi, Northern half of Alabama and Georgia. Storing seed in a refrigerator at the right moisture level will definately have seed that roots out and grows. Ginseng seed has a built in time clock and seems to germinate in April. It is possible Minnesota seed planted in a warm state may germinate much sooner. But storing seeds and/or roots in a refrigerator can easily have mold form if not done correctly. Freezing the seed in a freezer below 5 degrees F. can kill the seeds and roots as early as 24 hours later. Northern states to Southern Canada, the natural ground and snow and mulch cover is ideal and does not get that cold in the ground. Fall of 2007 Wild dried roots were selling at the typical $400.00 per pound range. Then quickly rose to $800.00 and peaked briefly in late November at $1,150.00 These were hystorically unprecedented prices. Early August of 2008 prices were around $600.00 and quickly fell as low as $250.00 in October and November. Many factors caused this including over digging in anticipating high prices, the economy was laying people off and diggers chose to sell at any price to obtain money, the overall economy in general, and some buyers who still had loans out on their purchase of roots to obtain the inventory they were holding did not want to purchase more roots, even at a low price. Beginning around mid November the market began to correct itself and roots were selling in the $325.00 to $350.00 range. By December it was over the $400.00 range. And by late May of 2009 recent buying was high as $500.00 range. The market in early November was about $400.00 range. Ginseng continues to become endangered plant and there is excellent money to be made on planting these. It may come down to in the near future the only people who can dig and sell Ginseng is if you are growing it yourself. Then what will prices do if you think they are high now? SHIPPING COST AND TIMES: Shipping is $4.00 First Class mailand additional orders of seedis free shipping, and multiple orders ship Priority Mail. Shipped immediately! Payment: All orders include planting instructions. And by buying from me, I will be there for you for any questions you may ask about growing Ginseng! 24 hour on line support. Been growing Ginseng for many years and I know what I am doing (most of the time). U.S. ORDERS ONLY!!! Photos show what the seed now looks like in November. cracking open very nicely and some seed is pushing its way out of the husk. It will do that just before it roots out. The seed will not root out until early spring just as the frost is leaving the ground. The photo of the plant is just for reference of what a mature Ginseng plant looks like as it dies back and turns yellow in the early fall. The drawing is how to properly store the seed during the winter if you cannot plant it now. I will now be sending two pages of instructions on how to properly store your seed until early spring planting.
