    20 Turquoise PUYA BERTERONIANA Bromeliad SEEDS - RARE!! You are bidding on20 freshPUYA BERTERONIANA Turquoise Bromeliad Seeds Also known as : “Blue Puya” Family: Bromeliaceae VERY RARE SPECIES!! Harvested FRESH this season!! PUYA BERTERONIANA is an otherworldly Bromeliad from Chile bearing huge, 6’ to 10’ flowering spikes of metallic, deep bluish-green flowers highlighted by vivid orange stamens in Summer. The flower spikessprout up to 20 at a time. The curling, silvery foliage makes large, striking, 3’ clumps by themselves, which is good as Puyas are rather slow growing. The rosettes die after flowering, leaving its offsets to carry on. Puyas need a dry, very well drainedmedium. Hardy down to 20 degrees F! This is one of the most beautiful awe inspiring plants you could see. The plant form a tough pineapple top like plant with recurved foliage and backwards facing spiny edges, the undersides have a silvery white bloom which adds to their appeal. But it’s the flowers that are amazing real turquoise blue and look like made from wax, each flower and inch or two long and masses of them make up one huge protruding flower spike, exquisite! May take a good few years to flower but so worth it and you aren’t likely too see any one else with them! Plants can reach 2-3 feet but much taller in flower. Needs very good drainage so add plenty of grit to the hole. Needs a sunny spot. Quite fast growing. Or can be overwintered in a dry environment. USDA zones 9-11 (( FULL SUN )) Perennial ———————- Sowing: Broadcast the small seeds onto the surface of your soil mixture. keep lightly moist and in bright light. Keep warm. Its fibrous thin leaves are spiny edged, stiff, recurved, and shiny grey-green. Growing slowly to 3′ and it produces a 3′ inflorescence of blue and flowers with up to 20 spikes which reach 3′. Native to the dry Andean regions. Seeds are very small.
