The flower does not last that long, but the bloom pod continuously keeps blooming for most of the year. The Plumeria smells like no other plant in the world and each color has its own unique fragrance. Some plumerias smell sweet, while another color can smell like jasmine, peaches or citrusy. The Plumeria can be grown anywhere in the world since it can either be a 20 foot tree if you live in the warmer climates, or it makes a fantastic potted plant for your patio deck, screen pool, balcony or driveway. The Plumeria only grows to the size of the pot. In climates where it freezes, you can either bring the plumeria inside to keep it growing in the winter, or you can put it in the closet or basement and it will go into a dormant state. Bring the Plumeria out when it warms up next spring, and it blooms bigger than the year before. The Plumeria is one of the most no maintenance plants in the world. It is drought tolerant and can be grown in full sun or partial sun. Below are some pictures of the Plumeria. Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaPlumeria writes : (common name Frangipani; syn. Himatanthus Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) is a small genus of 7-8 species native to tropical and subtropical Americas. The genus consists of mainly deciduous shrubs and trees. P. rubra (Common Frangipani, Red Frangipani), native to Mexico, Central America, and Venezuela, produces flowers ranging from yellow to pink depending on form or cultivar. From Mexico and Central America, Plumeria has spread to all tropical areas of the world, especially Hawaii, where it grows so abundantly that many people think that it is endemic to there. Plumeria is related to the Oleander, Nerium oleander, and both possess poisonous, milky sap, rather similar to that of Euphorbia. Each of the separate species of Plumeria bears differently shaped leaves and their form and growth habits are also distinct. The leaves of P. alba are quite narrow and corrugated, while leaves of P. pudica have an elongated oak shape and glossy, dark green color. P. pudica is one of the everblooming types with non-deciduous, evergreen leaves. Another species that retains leaves and flowers in winter is P. obtusa; though its common name is “Singapore”, it is originally from Colombia. Frangipani can also be found in Eastern Africa, where they are sometimes referred to in Swahili love poems. Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers have no nectar, and simply dupe their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar. “Plumeria” species are easily propagated by taking a cutting of leafless stem tips in Spring and allowing them to dry at the base before inserting them into soil. They are also propagated via tissue culture both from cuttings of freshly elongated stems and aseptically germinated seed. Germination : Soak the seed overnight ( 12 - 18 hours between two layers of wet paper towels. Pls. don’t let the paper towels dry out. Fill a pot with a well draining normal cactus mix. Soak the soil and allow it to drain. Insert the heavy end of seed no deeper than ¼ inch into the soil, leaving the feathered end exposed. Place the pot in direct morning sunlight or under a artificial grow light. The amount of watering needed during germination will be depend on conditions. Don’t allow the soil to completely dry out. Be careful not to keep the soil soggy or standing in water. After 2 – 3 weeks you should see the result.
