Louisiana Iris from Cindy’s Garden II will be listing several different hybrid Louisiana Iris in the Spring. Please watch for my listings February 2010. Louisiana Iris Landscaper Mix of Red-Pink-Lavender Hues This auction is for three Louisiana Iris in the shades of Red, Pink or Lavender. These color combinations make a very nice show when planted in groupings of three or more plants. These are tall Louisiana Iris, growing up to 36 inches, and can be used as back drops in well watered beds, along buildings for architectural interest or for erosion control along the edge of bogs, dams or ponds. They make excellent cut flowers for beautiful spring bouquets. Because Louisiana iris grows horizontally, they will spread and fill in an area quickly. Space your plants at least one foot apart to give them room. Each rhizome will form new fans on either side of the main fan, quickly filling in the space between plants. In one season, one fan can turn into three or more plants. In just a couple of years, you will have a rainbow of color each spring. I have three of these iris collections available. Bid on one or all three and save on shipping with your combined shipping discounts. This is an outstanding and proven iris for your garden. · Zone: 5-10 · Growth Pattern: Vigorous · Exposure: sun to part sun · Color: Deep Ruby Red, Light Pink, Lavender or Orchid · Bloom: spring; Generous bloomer, large flowers If you are looking for a plant that will thrive in a site with sun to partial shade and moist soil, and that features lovely flowers with interesting sword-like foliage, then Louisiana Iris is the plant for you. Growing happily with between, 0″ to 6″ of water over its rhizome, Louisiana Iris are one of the most versatile and hardiest of aquatic plants with many color versions, red, pink, blue, white, purple, etc. Always elegant, with attractive foliage all Summer long. Most Louisiana iris have three bud positions on a single stalk, while others may have a side branch with additional buds. As an aquatic iris, it’s uses are: 1. As an ideal plant for improving water quality by creating and extensive network of nitrate sucking roots that cope well with fish grazing. 2. has foliage that creates good shade and protection for fish. 3.along ponds to soften the edges and to help control erosion As a garden bed iris, it can be used for: 1. landscaping around buildings where there is ample watering, 2. well watered garden bed plantings, using the various colors and heights as either border plants or background plants . 3. for wonderful cut flowers Best planted well before spring to ensure it flowers. Louisiana Iris like to have a well formed set of roots developed before showing of the spectacular flowers for a week or two in Spring The flowers appear in spring on 2-3 foot stems held above the striking foliage. A single plant that is thriving in its site can form a clump 3 feet wide by 2-3 feet tall in two years. These clumps of green foliage add great architectural interest to the garden and will persist year round where winters are mild. Like most irises, Louisiana Iris likes to be planted shallow, with the tops of its rhizomes just above the soil level. They do best with frequent light feedings of compost tea, fish emulsion, or water soluble fertilizer. If not planted in moist soil, they should get extra watering. Clumps of Louisiana Iris should be divided when they begin to produce fewer blooms. Replant divided rhizomes with the top half at the soil line, keep watered until established, then enjoy these hardy perennials for years to come. We are a Mississippi State Licensed and Inspected Grower so you know you are bidding on healthy, parasite and disease free plants. Mississippi Certification number sent upon request. The aquatic plants and Louisiana Iris I sell are grown in our greenhouse, outdoor nursery containers and above ground pools. We never sell directly from ponds or natural water sources, as those plants will carry deadly bacteria and parasites. Payments accepted: Paypal from a confirmed address.
