Picked and packed fresh, direct from the grower! A pair of aquatics well suited to algae beating • Anacharis, perhaps the most versatile submerged aquatic plant • Easy to keep • Widely tolerant of light and temperature range • Growing between 60°f to 90°f • Thriving in neutral to slightly alkaline waters • Very well suited to coldwater aquaria • Versatile as a pond plant Postage 2-3 lbs Priority calculated to your zipcode within the USA Anacharis (Egeria densa) The plants picked will be 9″ to 48″ strands, intact and rooted pieces will be found where possible, packed to make the most of a 6″x 7″ USPS Priority parcel box Effective as an algae buster, soaking up nutrients early in the year, this submerged aquatic plant variety has coped with severe winters under ice and 100°f Summers in the Carolina’s, the only thing that slows it down is a complete drought in a baking hot pond, even then it can recover from roots embedded in the mud… While it can live up to its name Anacharis, ‘anarchy’… what roots it makes are quite easy to yank out, unlike Elodea which has a tunneling habit that can riddle a waterlily pot, smothering favourite plants early in the year As an aquarium plant~ At a ph between 6ph and 8ph, lighting of two watts per gallon (5-7000k full spectrum) 60°f to 80°f should see it thrive well, pin sections to the aquarium sand or gravel to encourage roots to form to anchor the foliage or try it free floating. Anacharis is quite effective placed to the sides or back of the aquarium to form an attractive mass of foliage, trim excess growth to create new bold groups where fish can choose to hide, to lay eggs, to shelter baby fish. In warm aquariums, Anacharis may need some additional plant feed to keep it growing perky. As a pond plant Hardy to zone 5, Anacharis is a fast growing perennial native of warm and temperate parts of America, Anacharis masses up to form dense submerged foliage which can make lengths up to six feet long where it has space to spread. There is one surprising extra feature, when this humble plant puts up a host of delicate tiny white flowers just above the water surface, late Summer… Quite effective for creating cover for fish through the Winter months, for collecting spawn for transfer, for beating algae early in the year when it masses up toward the end of Summer, round up large foliage masses and gather them in the quiet dull corners of the pond so it does not shade or smother water lilies dormant submerse foliage through Winter Listed as an invasive plant in AL, CT, ME, NH, OR, SC, VT, WA., please do not consider starting this plant where it is considered invasive, passing birds and critters can spread sprigs to sensitive habitats which cannot cope with smothering by this fast growing species. Surplus plants make an excellent mulch around drought sensitive garden plants, effectively extracting surplus fertility from ponds that would otherwise stimulate algae such as blanketweed Water improving, algae busting Bladderwort! (Utricularia Gibba) Unusual! Insectivorous flowering floating aquatic plant… Water improving and effectively contributes to clearing severe green water conditions, algae busting Bladderwort is a tiny plant that forms mats of floating foliage, an insectivorous plant growing dense and fast enough to be considered a ‘fast foliage’ plant …. Extracting surplus fertility and shading water to effectively suppress green water conditions, left to its own devices Bladderwort will mass up forming attractive mats of algae beating foliage, easy to remove and dispose of as a mulch around drought prone plants when surpluses need clearing In its natural habit of trying to dominate its habitat, bladderwort is well able to beat competition such as green water by exploiting the insects which thrive on algae as well as the fertility which feeds the green water, the tiny little insect traps along its stem snare the tiny aquatic organisms add to its novelty, along with the characteristic tiny yellow flowers held about an inch or two above the water, quite a sight when it masses up in a quiet corner. How does bladderwort beat algae? Algae feeds tiny floating insects that extract minerals the algae feed on and eventually die, returning fertility back to the algae cycle… The bladderwort consumes the nutrients from the algae eating insects, locking it up in new bladderwort growth (easier for you to control)…. voila, bladderwort interrupts the nutrient to algae to aquatic bug cycle, you get to yank it out at the bladderwort stage
